airberlin is Germany's second largest airline and a proud member of the oneworld® alliance, which has brought together some of the world's leading airlines and around 30 affiliate carriers. The airberlin group currently serves over 160 destinations in some 40 countries around the world.

airberlin will allow small cats and dogs to travel in the cabin of the aircraft, so long as all travel requirements are satisfied. Other animals, who do not meet the criteria for in-cabin transport, may be permitted to travel in the cargo hold of the airplane. Reservations should be made in advance for all pet travel.

Fees for travelling with pets will vary depending on whether your flight is considered a short, medium, or long-haul flight. The routes are defined as follows:

Short and medium-haul - All domestic German and European flights including the Russian Federation (to the west of the Urals and Caucasus), flights between Europe and North Africa, Turkey, Cyprus, the Canary Islands, the Azores & Madeira.

Long-haul - Flights between Europe and parts of the Russian Federation (to the east of the Urals), Central Asia, the Far East, the Pacific, North America, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, the south of Africa, the eastern Mediterranean region (Israel, Syria, and Lebanon), the Gulf States, Iran, and Iraq.

  • It is strongly recommended that you contact the consulate, embassy, or government authority for any country (or countries) you will be visiting to ensure that you have met all entrance requirements.
  • Pets will not be accepted in Business Class due to the design of the seats.
  • Anyone travelling with a pet must make a reservation for a window seat. This may be subject to an additional fee.
  • airberlin will not accept reptiles of any kind aboard their aircraft.
  • Pets are not permitted on flights to/from the United Kingdom.

If you are unable to travel with your pet

airberlin only lists travel options for pets travelling in-cabin or as checked baggage. If your pet will be travelling unaccompanied, please call them directly to discuss their policies and any options that may be available to you. You may need to make arrangements with another airline.

Codeshare flights

Pets may not be accepted on interline flights or flights operated by codeshare partners. It is strongly recommended that you contact any codeshare partners or other airlines directly to familiarize yourself with their individual policies regarding pet travel.
